Etiquette & Guidelines

Before Class

Please arrive early to class. Doors are locked at the start of class to keep the studio and everyone's belongings secure. Also, everyone must be on time for the class because each exercise prepares you for the exercise that follows, so it is important to be in the class at the start of class so your yoga practice can be approached safely.

For your first class, please arrive 15 minutes before class is to begin to fill out a form and find your way around the studio.

It is essential to drink plenty of water throughout the day to ensure proper hydration before beginning class.

Please take your shoes off at the door. No shoes are permitted beyond the lobby area.

Always sign in upon entering the studio. Please print legibly when signing in.

Please shower at some point of your day before class to help maintain a more pleasant environment for everyone.

Leave all personal belongings in the locker room. They become a hazard when they brought into the practice room.

Please silence cell phones and pagers and leave them outside of the practice room unless you are on call.

Let your teachers know of any recent injuries, surgeries, or medical conditions

When setting up your mat be courteous of the students already in the room. If it can be avoided, please don't set up in a way that blocks someone else's view. Try to maximize the space in the room by lining up the front of your mat with the lines in the carpet.

Please help your fellow students to feel welcomed to our studio by making space when the room is crowded. Remember, one day you will probably be the one looking for a space in the room!

If you are an experienced student and don't need the back wall to support your balance, please leave the back row available for the people who are either working with recent injuries or new to the studio.

During Class

All students must use a yoga mat with a bath-sized towel on top of it.

Please observe silence in the practice room to support both yourself and the other students in their concentration and relaxation. Everyone is invited to use the time before class to quietly prepare for yoga practice.

When exiting the class after final relaxation, please leave the room quietly.

Please keep the top on your water bottle at all times when you are not actively drinking to prevent spills.

Please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne or heavily scented lotions to class. Many people have chemical sensitivities to fragrance. Also, if you smoke, please don't smoke for several hours prior to class. The smell of cigarettes is very powerful and lingering.

Help keep our practice space clean. Please keep your sweat and body over your mat as much as possible during class.

Feeling dizzy or nauseous? If you need a break, it is ok to sit until you've regained your composure. It is best to sit and recover in the room so you don't surprise your body while it's trying to balance itself by going in and out of the heat.

Do your best to stay in the practice room once class begins. If you need the bathroom or an emergency requires you to leave, please re-enter the practice room between postures rather than during to minimize any disruption and be sure to let the teacher know why you are leaving.   Also, it is best to stop drinking water about 45 minutes prior to the start of class; this will help prevent any need for the bathroom during practice.

Please try to move with the class into and out of each posture as you are able. It promotes attention and self-control and helps build a collective energy in the room that supports everyone.

Drink water only between distinct postures, not during a time in which other people are working.

Practice stillness between postures.

Focus only on yourself in the mirror unless you are a new student.

Please adhere to the Bikram Yoga series while taking a Bikram Yoga class. If you have special limitations or believe you are unable to do a posture the way it is intended, please see an instructor before creating your own form of modification.

After Class

Please deposit trash, recycling, mats and towels in their proper place after use. Please only place plastic, glass, and metal in the recycling bin (cardboard drink boxes are not recyclable).

Be mindful of your thoughts, words, and actions once class is over.  Class may have ended, but every moment is an opportunity to practice peace, compassion, and the offering of support and uplifting action.

Re-hydrate, enjoy your yoga buzz, and come back soon!
